Available in Merchant Center since 2016, Google announced a few days ago that they would end feed importation from e-commerce solutions, Magento, Prestashop and BigCommerce.
Set up in 2016, the partnership between Google and these three e-commerce solutions (Magento, BigCommerce and Prestashop) was meant to help online retailers sell their products on Google’s Shopping platform. They could easily import their product catalogue into Google Merchant Center from their own back office, to quickly distribute their wares to millions of new customers.
At the end of January, online retailers using the feature received the following email from Google announcing that from March 20th, 2018, the partnership would come to an end.
“We are writing you today to let you know that we’re retiring the existing Google built ecommerce platform imports with BigCommerce, PrestaShop, and Magento. We’re retiring these imports in order to better focus on solutions that will make the Shopping ads onboarding a more seamless experience. We’re continuing to work with ecommerce platforms to explore more frictionless integration opportunities.”
In their email, the search engine alluded to the fact that they wish to improve user experience.
So starting from the 20th of march, advertisers using this feature will find that their feeds have been suspended and will need to find an alternative way to distribute their products on Google Shopping.
At Lengow, we provide our retailer clients with several e-commerce plugins (Magento, Magento 2, Prestashop, WooCommerce, Shopware) so they can easily integrate their product catalogue into our platform.
